Why I'm celebrating 30 years of marriage with a gift for young women standing at their own crossroads.

This August, my partner-in-crime, a.k.a. Assistante, and I celebrate 30 years of marriage.
Along with coming to the United States, marrying him was one of the two most important decisions I have ever made. Both happened when I was young. Both were made on pure gut instinct - before Google, before data, before anyone could hand me a framework for what I was about to do.
There was no internet to collect logical evidence. No algorithm to weigh the odds. Just a feeling I couldn't argue with, and a decision I had to make anyway.
And both changed everything.
And the funny thing is, for the longest time, I wasn't particularly interested in photographing “young chicks”.
Young models would reach out to me. Beautiful, talented women. And I'd usually think, “They're lovely, but they're not really my people.”
My work had always pulled me toward women with stories. Women who had lived a little. Women who had been through things and emerged on the other side.
Then I started seeing something I hadn't expected in these young women. They had stories too. They were simply standing at the beginning of them - at exactly the edge where big decisions live before they become the story they tell thirty years from now. The place where instinct and uncertainty sit right next to each other, and she hasn't yet learned which one to trust.
And it made me think about what a photograph could hold at a moment like that.
What if someone had truly seen her there? Not just snapped a photo, but actually witnessed who she was at that exact moment - before the world started telling her who she should be?
That's why I created Forever 22.
Not to freeze anyone in time. But to honor this season and to say:
This moment matters. You matter. Right now, exactly as you are.
And to mark 30 years of a decision I made on pure instinct - when I was young and brave enough to trust what I knew without having all the answers - I'm offering something I almost never give: a one-time $300 portrait credit toward a custom fine-art portrait order for applications received by August 31.
Because if I could give the 22-year-old version of myself anything, it wouldn't be a crystal ball. It would be the chance to see herself clearly, right there at the beginning.
This 30th anniversary comes only once. And so is this moment in her life.
